Newhall, California. The Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians co-hosted the 30th Annual Hart of the West Pow Wow on October 5th and 6th 2024 in Newhall, California. Santa Clarita residents James Morales and Eddie Salas emphasized the significance of preserving their Native American heritage while attending the 30th Annual Hart of the West Pow Wow at William S. Hart Park. The event celebrated Native culture through traditional dance, music, storytelling, and crafts, drawing over 10,000 attendees from various tribes, including those from San Bernardino and Santa Barbara. Morales, a member of the Fernandeño Tataviam Band, highlighted the importance of educating younger generations about their roots, while tribal president Rudy Ortega praised the event’s success and the participation of vendors and dancers from across the region. The Pow Wow not only fostered cultural awareness but also served as a communal celebration, attracting both those seeking to reconnect with their Native roots and others looking for a weekend of enjoyment.
