On September 30, 2019, the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians participated in a collaborative display on the history of the local tribes of Los Angeles and Venura counties. The event was held at the Caltrans District 7 headquarters in Downtown Los Angeles, on the traditional village of Yaanga.

Elders Council member Dennis Garcia, Vice President Mark Villaseñor, and Tribal President Rudy Ortega Jr. sing traditional songs to welcome guests to yaanga, a village from which citizens of the Tribe descend.

The exhibit, entitled “We Are (Still) Here: Indigenous Peoples of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties” was on display for the entire month of October.

Informational posters of the Ventureño, Gabrielino, Fernandeño, and Serrano, as told and submitted by the tribes.

The event was hosted by the Division of Environmental Planning at the Cultural Studies Unit.
