Tiüvac’a’ai (Healthy Lands) High Road Training Program
About the Program
Fernandeno Tataviam Band of Mission Indians (FTBMI or Tribe) is proud to announce it has been awarded funding through the Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity’s (DEO) High Road Training Partnership (HRTP) Fund to launch “Tiüvac’a’ai (Healthy Lands) High Road Training Partnership” FTBMI’s training program aims to address demand of workers in the Construction & Infrastructure industry, with an emphasis on green jobs (Solar Energy and Landscaping Services). The Program’s overall objective is to provide Native American youth and frontline with pathways to High Road jobs that pay a living wage.

EV/Charging Station Installer Training
- 14-Week Paid Solar & EV Training Program – Both classroom and hands-on instruction covering solar energy systems, electrical basics, EV charging stations, and installation.
- Learn High-Demand Technical Skills – Gain experience in solar resource evaluation, PV system sizing and design, safety protocols (OSHA 10), mechanical and electrical components, and troubleshooting.
- Real-World Projects & Labs – Work on mock site assessments, system installations, maintenance drills, market research.
- Certifications & Career Preparation – Prepare for OSHA 10 Construction Safety Certification and the PV Associate Certification to increase employability.
- Industry Knowledge & Job Readiness – Understand solar markets, incentives, energy economics, project cycles, and develop teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Job Placement Support After Completion – Receive assistance connecting with employers in the solar and EV industries to begin your career.
Field/Land Maintenance Training
- 14-Week Hands-On Land & Water Management Training – Learn water systems, land use, policy, agriculture, irrigation, technology, permaculture, sustainability, and future planning through structured weekly modules.
- Build Real Technical Skills – Design rain harvesting systems, cisterns, greywater reuse, irrigation layouts, water management plans, permaculture gardens, composting systems, and climate-resilient land strategies.
- Understand Environmental Policy & Equity – Explore water rights, governance, climate change impacts, infrastructure gaps, agricultural economics, and designing equitable land and water solutions.
- Fieldwork + Design Labs Every Week – Practice with real tools, build systems, test data, model irrigation, map sustainability plans, and complete group and individual design projects.
- Certifications, Safety Training & Career Preparation – Learn tool safety, system installation standards, policy analysis, project planning, public speaking, and earn certifications relevant to the industry.
- Job Placement Support After Completion – Receive career coaching and employer connections for roles in conservation, land management, sustainability, agriculture, utilities, and environmental services.
Training Information
A paid stipend is available during a 14‑week blended training program that combines classroom instruction with hands‑on experience and prepares participants for career pathways in electric vehicle and charging station installation as well as land management. The program offers industry‑recognized certifications, including OSHA 10, EV certification, and Safety and Tools certification, and requires no prior experience. Transportation and supportive services are provided to help ensure participant success. Eligible applicants must be 18 years or older, reside in Los Angeles County, and be able to lift up to 55 pounds.
