Slide Yes, we're still here. The Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians is a native sovereign nation with historic ties to Mission San Fernando and descent from the Native American villages located in the Simi, San Fernando, Santa Clarita, and Antelope Valleys. our story

Slide (anymore) But when American law took hold in 1850, we were forced to fight for our land in Los Angeles court against developers. After losing those cases, in 1900, our Tribe was officially landless. No, we don't have a Tribal Reservation.... Did you know that the San Fernando Valley was once an Indian Reservation? After Spanish colonization, the Mexican government returned over 18,000 acres of the San Fernando Valley to our Tribe.

Slide Yes, we live and
work in L.A.
Too often, Native communities have been reduced to stereotypes or made invisible altogether. But here’s the truth: not all Tribes look like the version you were taught. We are living proof that Native sovereignty and innovation take many forms—often far beyond what you might expect. Our Tribe still lives and works in Los Angeles County—the land we’ve called home for thousands of years.

Slide To support our existence, our leaders exercised the Tribe's sovereignty and created innovative solutions to overcome the financial challenges of being a landless Tribe in one of the most densely populated counties in the country. Uplifting our
community, together.

Slide Since our eviction in 1900, the Tribe founded the following entities that support the Los Angeles community: click the logos to explore the website
