The Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians is a native sovereign nation with historic ties to Mission San Fernando and descent from the Native American villages located in the Simi, San Fernando, Santa Clarita, and Antelope Valleys.

Did you know that the San Fernando Valley was once an Indian Reservation? After Spanish colonization, the Mexican government returned over 18,000 acres of the San Fernando Valley to our Tribe.

Too often, Native communities have been reduced to stereotypes or made invisible altogether. But here’s the truth: not all Tribes look like the version you were taught. We are living proof that Native sovereignty and innovation take many forms—often far beyond what you might expect. Our Tribe still lives and works in Los Angeles County—the land we’ve called home for thousands of years.
