On October 20, 2017, the Tribe joined a screening of Promised Land, and a panel on sovereignty issues, at the University of California, Los Angeles. 

On August 30, 2017, the Los Angeles City Council voted 14-1 in favor of the replacement of Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day every second Monday in October.
