On Monday, October 8, 2018, the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians joined the Gabrielino Nation in welcoming the Los Angeles City/County’s first Inaugural Indigenous Peoples Celebration to Yaangna (Los Angeles), California.
The spectacular event hosted by Los Angeles City Council Member Mitch O’Farrell & Los Angeles City/County Native American Indian Commission on the traditional village of Yaanga, to which the Gabrilieno Tongva and Fernandeño Tataviam are tied.
The Tribe was one of the many that participated in the Procession of Nations at the event. Of its three lineages, the Tribe’s Ortiz lineage descends directly from Yaanga.
