Beginning July 1, 2008, applications for Tribal Citizenship for minors and adults who are not currently enrolled will be accepted by Office of Tribal Citizenship of the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians. Tribal Senate shall have the power to enact ordinances governing future citizenship and loss of citizenship in the Tribe. (Article 17, Section g, Constitution of the Fernandeño Tataviam Tribe)
California Judgment Roll Letter
Many Fernandeños received a letter from the Department of the Interior Bureau of Indian Affairs accompanied with a settlement payment. The payment was distributed to Indians in California as a settlement from a lawsuit. This letter does not grant tribal citizenship since it was merely a letter from the federal government verifying entitlement to the settlement. However, a copy of this letter is required for tribal enrollment.
