Tribal President Rudy Ortega Jr. opens scholarly presentation on Tataviam by Dr. Solis at College of the Canyons.

College of the Canyons Anthropology Professor Dr. Laurie Solis delivered an academic presentation entitled, “Tataviam: People Who Face the Sun,” on Thursday, March 30 at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center.

The presentation provided extensive information on pre-Mission semi-nomadic Tataviam life ways, including the local diet, land maintenance, and plant use.

The event provided an important opportunity for Dr. Solis to share archaeological and ethnographic information. Among the audience were Tataviam citizens and members of the Council of Elders, including Bernice Cooke and Kathy Flores.

The Tribe thanks Dr. Solis for her research and literature on Tataviam.
